Buckham Gallery Exhibition

This Friday April 12^th from 5pm until 9pm at Buckham Gallery, located in beautiful downtown Flint. Some of my fine art work will be included in an exhibition called Packaged Delicates. I’m very excited about this show because my images have never been on display at Buckham and I was recently voted in as an artist member! I’m exhibiting fourteen different images, many of which focus on different architectural elements. I was fortunate to be able to travel both here in the U.S. and abroad. Several of my images were taken in Chicago, Detroit, and a few different locations in India. This is Artwalk Friday so please come down, check out some great art, and enjoy a glass of wine. Melissa, Olivia & Leo

Last Saturday I had a family portrait session at a little park in Rochester Hills. We were so lucky that it wasn’t raining. It had been raining all day but somehow the rain stopped for an hour or so, just long enough to take some beautiful portraits. I had a lot of fun with this session and the little veterans memorial park ended up being a great location for a family portrait session. Kris Kringle Market

This past weekend I visited the Downtown Rochester Kris Kringle Market with some of my family. The event was inspired by the 700-year old tradition of open-air Christmas markets found throughout Europe. The Market featured Michigan made goods, one-of-a-kind shopping, specialty foods, fresh greens & wreaths and handcrafted gifts for the holiday. The entire stretch of Downtown was lit up with Christmas lights, each building a different color. While there I visited the very busy Holy Cannoli’s. They are a family owned business with three generations of cannoli makers providing handmade traditional and Gluten Free cannoli. The cannoli and toffee were great, handmade in Rochester Michigan. I recommend visiting next year and think this event will become part of my holiday tradition.

Belle Isle Shoot

Last weekend I traveled down to Detroit to celebrate my birthday. While there I got a chance to see the Fabrege exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts, which was outstanding. After that I went to the historic landmark Pewabic Pottery for a little shopping and Belle Isle for a little shooting. During my time in Detroit I shot a small session for my friend Jennifer. These are a few of her new images and I’ve included a couple of my favorite iron bridge images. The Red Bridge at Belle Isle looks to have been recently painted. It was designed by the King Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio, and was constructed in 1893. I think it is very beautiful..

Memorial Tribute

Recently my Aunt Evelyn passed away and I wanted to share the composite I designed for her memorial service. It took many hours to digitally restore each image, removing all of the dust, scratches and discoloration. Next a custom background was created to place the images on, layering different textures, text, and design elements. The result is this beautiful composite that will now be a treasured family keepsake. Kind, generous, hard working, faithful, and family oriented were all words used to describe Aunt Evelyn. My Aunt Evelyn lived in Mount Morris all of her life, worked at GM for 37 years, and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Morris. She will be forever loved and missed by the many lives she has touched.

Exhibition Flint Crepe Company

I have a new Fine Art exhibition at the Flint Crepe Company located in downtown Flint on Saginaw Street. Many of my Fine Art pieces will be for sale and on display including pieces from the Heidelberg community in Detroit, Fourth of July fireworks taken in Frankenmuth and the Nazarene Church in Luce. The Pierson Wedding

I recently had the privilege of photographing the Pierson wedding at picturesque Crossroads Village. The weather was perfect that day and I was able to capture some amazing shots. Some of my favorite images are from the beautiful antique carousel that was built in 1912. It includes hand carved wooden horses and a newly restored dragon chariot that I posed the entire wedding party on. When we were finished at the carousel, we ran into another wedding party on their way in. Both brides embraced and posed for a few pictures. It was a lot of fun working with the bride and groom, I wish them all the best and may the love you share grow stronger every day.

The Jenkins Wedding

Last weekend I had the privilege of photographing the Jenkins wedding. The wedding took place at the beautifully decorated New Jerusalem Baptist Church, the fall colors the bride chose were just gorgeous. Meadow Brook Music Festival’s 12th Annual Wine and Food Festival

This past weekend I got to experience the Meadow Brook Music Festival’s 12th Annual Wine and Food Festival. It was very hot but, still it was a beautiful summer day. Award-winning wineries throughout Michigan plus California, Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Italy, New Zealand and Spain were on hand showcasing more than 150 varieties of wine. Admission included free wine samples, a complimentary wine glass, free food samplings, and live music.

Chardonnay, Merlots, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rieslings, sparkling, dessert wines and many more were available for sampling and purchase at the festival. My favorite samplings were from a winery located in Haslett, Michigan called Bergdorf’s Winery. Deb and Dave Burgdorf have been making wine for over 30 years and have won many awards throughout the years. They were very friendly people and I just can’t say enough about how great their wine is. I came back to their booth 3 times to try more! I highly recommend you visit their website and/or their winery. They have a special event coming up on September 8th, if you’d like to check it out! Fantastic..

De Angelis Winery is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They produce 100% natural wines with no added sulfites or preservatives, that means – no splitting headaches! My favorite wine that I tried of theirs was an unusually spicy red called Mourvedre, supposedly it pairs well with seafood.

Another great wine that I came across was called One Hope. One Hope Wine donates 50% of it’s profits to various charities! Here is a list of causes those profits go to support.

Besides wine, I got to sample some great jellies from a company called For the Love of June. This is a family owned Michigan based company, who grow many of their own ingredients and buy locally what they don’t raise themselves. Their products are made in small batches without any artificial ingredients. Founded by two sisters in 2011, they named their company after their grandma June, who had taught them both how to can. My choice of all of the jellies that I sampled was a Red Onion Jelly. I hadn’t ever tasted anything like it, just delicious..

The Kilbourne Family

The Kilbourne Family met me at a beautiful park in Clarkston to have their portraits taken. Luckily the rain clouds had cleared out early in the afternoon, so we had perfect weather conditions to take some amazing pictures. Matt, Mariana and their two kids Samantha and Nick were previous clients of mine who had chosen the same park last year for their family portraits. Adam, Juli and Gavin were also previous clients who had chosen a winter shoot for their family portraits. I remember the temperature was only 4 degrees that day but, the lighting was perfect and their pictures were really fabulous.

These are a few of my favorite shots from the session. The Kilbournes really looked nice because they had chosen to wear black and white. They looked very classy and I had a great time with them. I especially enjoyed working with the kids. They seemed genuinely happy to be together. Samantha and Ava are pretty young ladies and looked great in their photos. Gavin and Nick always look like the best of friends. I hope you enjoy looking at these images as much as I do and will consider Allure Arts & Photography for all of your portrait and event needs.
